About Jess

My work is directly influenced by the landscape of the city in which I currently reside – Columbus, Ohio. Simply put, I like to paint places I know. I want people to walk away from my work with a sense of community and connection to place.

Beyond capturing the essence and feeling of a location each painting is an opportunity to explore color. Working from my own original photographs, I recreate the mood and atmosphere of a location with an expressive color palette and dramatic composition. I am particularly interested in capturing light, temperature and reflection.

I grew up in a small Appalachian town near Wheeling, West Virginia. When I was a kid I had the unique opportunity to work with a mentor and start painting with oils. I was instantly hooked and this set me on the path of where I am today.

For my formal training I attended the Columbus College of Art and Design and was awarded a full-tuition scholarship – graduating with a BFA in 2008, Summa Cum Laude. During this time I had the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad in Florence, Italy.

I have been a member artist with Studios on High Gallery in the Short North Arts District since 2016. You can find me painting on-site at the gallery select weekends of each month and you can find my work in collections globally.
